Description
I'm Martin Saban-Smith, a woodturner and teacher based in Hampshire, working from my workshop at Garthowen Garden Centre near the South Downs.
This channel is where I share what happens at the lathe — projects from start to finish, techniques I've learned (often the hard way), and the thinking behind the work. I'm interested in proportion, in finishing well, and in the quiet satisfaction of making something with your hands.
You'll find live streams on occasional Tuesday evenings, project videos, and ten years of Turner's Journey episodes showing workshop life as it actually is, even the bits that don't go to plan.
I teach at The Woodturning School, run Woodturning360 (an online turning club), and wrote 'Woodturning: Form and Formula' — a book about why some pieces feel right.
Whether you're new to turning or have been at it for years, you're welcome here. Process over perfection. The lathe keeps turning.

THANK YOU for joining in the live with Mike Waldt and I this evening. We both had a great time demonstrating for you and have been blown away by your generous donations to MIND, the mental health charity. You have raised a total of £1637.08 for them this evening. THANK YOU!
Mike and I wish you all a very happy and creative new year. :-)

An excellent guide to bowl turning Martin, not just for beginners, but us more experienced turners too. Well produced and documented, with just the right amount of detail, to provide a solid tutorial for turning a bowl. Well done mate.

Thank you for taking the time to explain in detail all the stages in turning a bowl, I am a new turner and even at my level I was able to understand clearly these steps. I look forward to being able to put your helpful teaching to use. Thanks
