After losing her younger brother Trey to suicide following years of trauma stemming from his time at Camp Kanakuk—one of the largest and most well-known evangelical camps in the country—Elizabeth has made it her life’s work to pursue justice and protect other children from similar harm. Through relentless advocacy, she helped pass Trey’s Law in Texas and Missouri, aiming to prevent future abuse and hold institutions accountable. We take a closer look at the widespread allegations connected to Camp Kanakuk, the troubling lack of oversight, and the concerning use of legal silencing tactics that have kept victims quiet for years.
I was connected to Elizabeth through Tim Tebow—who many of you know from his own powerful and emotional appearance on this show—and I’m grateful he made the introduction. As heavy and heartbreaking as this episode is, I encourage everyone—especially parents—to take a listen, and I hope it leads to long-overdue accountability and change.

When Ryan starts getting choked up while telling the overdose story I really appreciate how Shawn changes the camera angle away from Ryan instead of showing us a close up of him crying like every other person in media wouldn’t be able to resist. Little stuff like that shows character and respect.

I work in law enforcement doing child exploitation and human trafficking. The problem is insane. This episode is extremely accurate on how it all works. In fact, I arrested someone last week in literally the exact same way. Great episode for sure.
