True, if you were allowed to choose two starters instead of one in the game Oshawott would be my second choice. However for a first gym match Tepig is good because it evolves to a fighting type if you are willing to grind your way out.

I can see your point which is why by a weakness standpoint Snivy is considered hard mode and Emboar medium mode. However movepool wise, Emboar has a broader movepool that taps both of his attacking stats while being a decent tank with a good HP stat plus can cover for Samurott with Wild Bolt and defeats Serperior with Flare Blitz.

i chose oshawott mainly because it can learn bug type moves such as megahorn and x scissor and the ice type move ice beam so it can defend itself against grass type and because it has the least amount of weaknesses

I picked a tepig on black and an oshawott for black 2 and a snivy for white 2 :)

In a competitve scenerio, both are in the same tier so it is a matter of strategy and looking at movepool. Personally due to their equal BSTs I would look at movepool as a deciding factor. Since Emboar has a broader movepool, I'd say Tepig is the better choice.

This choice is dependent on your playing style and other team members you want to select. Serperior works better as a supporting tank whereas Samurott is better for a sweeper. You want to dish out hard hits go for Oshawott, otherwise go for Serperior who learns a lot of great support moves such as Coil and Calm Mind, both good for tanking revenge kills or longer fight such as the PWT.

I know, not training to first evolution level before the first gym is a classic trainer mistake. If I Lped this game I would train to level 20 before reaching the first gym, however getting a good mic is going to be hard.
