Runway DFW Quick update from the frozen tundra of the Runway DFW Ranch... we've been iced/snowed in since Friday night. Very fortunate that our power and heat have not failed us, and we've got plenty of food in the cupboard. But the roads in our area (about 50 miles from DFW Airport and about 60 miles from Dallas Love Field) continue to be totally iced over. Reports from neighbors who have attempted to travel have not been encouraging. We're a couple of miles from the nearest highway, and there are hills to negotiate between here and there on untreated local roads. So... not sure yet when I'll be able to resume Runway DFW streaming. I sincerely appreciate your ongoing support of the channel until conditions permit a return to the airports! (2 days ago)

Runway DFW Here's a close-up shot of the Boeing 737-200 that I grabbed while double-parked outside the fence of the FBO where this classic jet was parked at Love Field after we caught the landing on our live Runway DFW broadcast on Saturday night (click the image for the full, wide-screen version!). https://www.youtube.com/live/r4BFLKpu... This aircraft will be 40 years old later this year, and it's estimated there are fewer than 20 of this type that remain airworthy! (2 weeks ago (edited))

Runway DFW American Airlines has provided a sneak peek of its 100th Anniversary livery which will appear on a Boeing 737 "later this month." All of AA's aircraft will also feature a "100" decal adjacent to the entrance door. This, of course, is in addition to the distinctive Flagship livery already flying on a 777-300. What do you think? Been on a 787-9 with a deployed RAT. It had a generator problem so used the rat for backup

Thanks for extra details and education. Knowing about systems like this helps many of us feel safer when flying.

Did you know that next month in March, Lufthansa's Frankfurt to DFW service will be using the Dreamliner?
nutandboltguy3720 (2 years ago)
If that RAT is like on the ERJ 175, once it’s deployed, it can’t be retracted until it’s on the ground and a mechanic turns the blades in the right position to go back in the opening.

Looks like a RAT (RAM Air Turbine) to me.
jaypainespotter (2 years ago (edited))
I see a rats many times on pre delivery test flights here at Paine Field.

I thought I could hear the blade chop as it flew by you.

I’m surprised you smelled a ram air turbine, did it smell like hydraulic fluid?
andyfisher1911 (2 years ago)

Worked as an A&P mechanic back in the 80's at LAX for TWA and worked on L10LL's . . while doing a "A" check on an aircraft I walked into one that was deployed and got 6 stiches lol
