Another way to deal with the tear out with carbide tools is to switch to a negative rake carbide insert

I made some like this, drilled 3 or 4 holes in the underside and glued in neodymium magnets and they make superb pin bowls for sewers. The pins stay in the bowl but are easy to pick up when you need one
