Years ago, visiting Duxford Museum, I found myself chatting with a Polish WW2 pilot. He had flown the Beaufighter and he talked at length about the aircraft, which he had plainly enjoyed flying, before he smiled and said simply "but then we got the Mosquito". He smiled, his eyes had a faraway look and his voice trailed off; there was really nothing more that needed to be said...

If the question is 'Beaufighter or Mosquito?', the answer is yes

Sorry Al. The Beaufighter is not ugly. It’s a handsome airframe. The Mosquito is beautiful.

The Beaufighter is to the Mosquito what the Typhoon is to the Spitfire... Brawn vs beauty - and they are all lovely...

These Beaufighters were loved by the Australians and hated by the Japanese who called them whispering death. They were so quiet approaching and deadly when there.

I loved both my Beaufighter and Mosquito Airfix models when I was a boy :)

The Beaufighter is ranked 3rd in air to air kills in the RAF, after the Spitfire and Hurricane. Crazy that this is forgotten. The Mosquito is 4th by a hair.

My uncle flew both during the war. Loved them both, too, but the Beau had a special place in his heart as he was living in Filton at the outbreak of the war, just a few hundred yards from the BAC.

Two of my favorite aircraft from WW2, function vs form, but both so effective in their own ways.
