I’m Dennis, better known as Mista 808! Music has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. Growing up in Sacramento, California, during the ’90s, I discovered my passion for music at a young age. I taught myself to play the piano by ear, often spending hours perfecting melodies. In grade school, I won talent shows by performing legendary pieces like Chariots of Fire, Moonlight Sonata, Für Elise, and other timeless classics. Those early experiences shaped my love for music and drive to create.
My journey into music took an exciting turn when I fell in love with bass. The first rap record I ever purchased was Back to the Hotel by N2Deep in 1992. I was just nine years old, but the memory is vivid. I stood inside Tower Records with my uncle during the Christmas season, listening to the single Back to the Hotel on the store’s headphone display, playing it over and over. That moment sparked something in me—an unshakable love for rap music!

I almost backed out of your reaction in the first minute , BUT, I'm a RENegade and we never leave anyone behind. The fact you put yourself out there like you did shows a lot about your character. Trust me when I say you are exactly the type of person that will benefit from knowing Ren. This has been a game changer for so many, myself included. I’m so glad that you call that voice the “ antagonist “ , which is exactly what I call it. It’s not “ evil” per se; it’s that thing that is in your fucking face while saying “ I’m not touching you “; it’s that thing that CAN propel you to say “ Fuck you. I’m doing it…now!” but it’s also the voice that can drive you to go silent and tunnel underground.

Ren had the same experience as you, lost his best friend to Suicide at about the same age 20 and has written several songs about it, Suicide and For Joe are two you should hear, but they will cut you up. He has an amazing voice as well, as you will find out when you continue down Ren's rabbit hole. Glad you gave him a second chance, the rewards will be plentiful.

I have to say first that I appreciate you giving this another shot. Don't beat yourself up for it, this masterpiece was in my feed for months and I just didn't want to watch it, and i can't really explain why. However, The introduction to Ren through Hi Ren, seems to find people when they need it the most, it did me and was quite literally life changing. Ren's body of work has become a companion for me in this life and for the first time in my life I feel a little less alien to the world around me. I hope you continue on the Ren journey and learn how incredibly uniquely talented our Ren is. Peace friend.
