I had the black one, and I also had the black Thompson too . The 70s were a great time to grow up.

Was over the moon to get the all black version in the 70's. Lasted about a week before I broke off the barrel diving for cover in a friends back garden. I bawled my eyes out for the following week and can almost feel myself welling up now !

I had two of the black ones when I was a kid. You are right about the barrel breaking. I also had the Thompson machine gun. The Thompson lasted a lot longer than the FN’s did.

I have one of these still attached to its card and looks like the bayonet and magazine has never been opened

The SLR came with wooden stocks and handles, mine was number 42 and was brilliant up to 600 yards

Had one!, it came attached to a cardboard backing which if I recall correctly was bright orange! Snapped the barrel a couple times but managed to glue it back. Bought a few bags of the spare ammo too, great fun was had!

Blast from the past. I had one and loved it.

I had the SLR in around 64/65 and it was most definitely all black! Yes the barrel broke off and the plastic retaining the carrying handle would also break. I also had the Mk4 helmet ( never knew which was back or front !) but it had no lining, only a large plug of sponge glued to the centre of the inside . You say the rifle commands a starting price of £600- you can get a deactivated L1A1 for near enough that !

I had one in 1960 - all black I've never seen the wood effect one - it looked a lot better than the black one I can't recall the make !
