Personally, I think the addition of specific characters wasn't a bad move for the games via Sarge's Heroes, since it does give the player something to recognize between games.

38:36 You need to understand that at the time us console guys were starving for a decent RTS, and It was a decent RTS that controlled well on a PS2 controller. Which made it amazing. excluding Tom Clancy's End War, we didn't get a decent RTS on a console until Halo Wars after that.

Everyone ripped on 3DO when really, they were ahead of their time. And what I mean by that is that their faults have become the standard for the gaming industry today. 1) over priced consoles 2) bumping out unfinished and broken games every other day, going for a quantity over quality cash grab 3) heck, even tho that email about reviewers was unhinged, it’s not wrong in with its core message about review sites being paid off by game companies

In 1999, I emailed 3DO and offered to build them a fan website. Now back in 1999, building a website was essentially dark voodoo magic to most people so 3DO got so excited they sent me absolute crap tons of art, copy, and other various marketing materials to use while building the fan site.
