"You want to be particular and make it a runway, huh?" Geez, that man! In a life or death situation and he still keeps his sense of humour! Wow.

You can hear the fear in their voices. Everyone in that cockpit probably thought that this was going to be their last day on Earth, and yet they remained consummate professionals, fought that plane all the way to the ground and saved more lives than could reasonably be expected. Hope you enjoyed your beer, sir.

These guys had balls of steel. Incredible that they even made the airport. That must have been scary as hell.

A passenger was actually a DC 10 pilot who assisted these pilots with thrust to control the plane cause there were so many other tasks the pilot and co pilot had to do.This was an incredible display of teamwork and pilot skill, although tragic ppl died they saved a lot of lives cause this was a total loss

When Captain Haynes said, "Good luck sweetheart", it is gut wrenching.

I listened to this a few times during my studies while in nursing school, and when I thought I wouldn’t get through the program, the ATC of Al Haynes and the tower taught me that a lot about patience, luck, and determination.

One of the - if not THE - most astonishing job(s) of piloting that's ever been witnessed. There were no procedures whatsoever even from McDonnell-Douglass for handling the complete loss of hydraulics in the plane.

I’m a flight engineer on the military version of this airplane. Back in the day, the Capt from this flight used to come and brief crews flying her. That was before my time, but after flying the airplane and understanding exactly what happened and the situation they were in, it’s just awe inspiring. I’ve thought about it at times when we’re just cruising and thought about what I’d do if it happened to my crew. Scary to think about.

"You're cleared to land on any runway." "You wanna be particular and make it a runway, huh?"

The four men in cockpit did a truelly incredible job in saving so many lives through skill and amazing flight management. The flight crew survived and eventually returned to flight duties.

All were exemplary but Jan Brown really stands out with her cheerful 'Thaaanks! You too!' after being wished good luck.

It is incredible that plane came down near level flight and stopped on airport property without making a crater. The fact that anyone survived is a testament to how hard this crew worked to get them down as safe as they could. Just a little more luck would have saved more, but I bet survivors are kissing the ground daily.

Those guys almost pulled it off completely, what an amazing job under the stress and circumstances. True heroes, each one of them!
