It's amazing how long jellyfish have been around, and have been virtually unchanged since their beginning.

I have been stung by one of these while surfing. I will stay paddled out with sharks, rays, other jellies, but after one sting on a quarter sized patch of skin behind my right ankle, I paddled in with the very tips of my fingers about a hundred yards in a little excruciating ball of very frightened white boy. It felt like fire dipped in acid and lasted about a day harsh and a week tender.

@AleksM1991 Nope, according to Wikipedia, "Most encounters cause temporary pain and localized redness. In normal circumstances, and in healthy individuals, their stings are not known to be fatal."
