I don't know which of the three J.M. Whites this was but my third great grandfather, Captain John Mason Converse, had the second J.M. White built for his own river service and used his initials for the name. I'm not familiar with its burning, but Converse was killed in the Colonel Crossman in January 1858 when the secondary boiler exploded near him. 14 people were killed in the accident at New Madrid, MO. Nice song, BTW.
