Oh, I don't know what to write,
But there's one truth I’ve seen in light
A quiet thought, now crystal clear,
A truth I’ve carried year by year.
We search for partners, hearts so bright,
With hopeful eyes and smiles of light,
Yet he’s been near since breath began,
A shadow trailing every man.
They come and go and the faces fade,
But he alone will always stay.
No force on Earth can make him part,
He lingers deep within the heart.
Hindu, Buddhist, Christian,
Or even those who pray to none
Still, we will meet him, come what may,
He walks with all along the way.
He’s haunted me since I was five,
Now eighteen looms, I’m still alive,
But lost in thoughts too dark to shine,
He whispers low, “One day, you’re mine.”
And though I wish to run or fight,
I know his grip is nature’s right.
Love, or money, or a prayerful cry
None can escape when he walks by.
